Letter from the President

Dear Fellow Alumni,

This will be our final letter to you as elections will soon be taking place for new officers. By now, most of you should have received ( via email/ "snail mail" ) information regarding the elections. The elections for all of SGU Alumni Associations are being conducted by certain members of the ACB (Alumni Coordinating Board). I have been informed that approximately 1800 persons (graduates/associate student members) are now currently registered on the ACB website. In order to vote, one must register on this site:

alumnirelations.sgu.edu

Although we had submitted the requested Budget and Business Plans to the ACB early in our term, we received little feedback/support for our endeavors on behalf of our fellow alumni. We had hoped to:
  1. Expand our own website to include a Bookstore with SGUSOM AA items for purchase and provide a professional networking "board" for members to post/list opportunities available in their respective specialties and geographic locations;
  2. Establish a financial collection system on the website for payments of logo items ordered as well as to process "dues" and/or pledges;
  3. Provide CME opportunities for members - had several cruises with port stops in Grenada ready to go, but received no assistance with planning/accreditation for CMEs;
  4. Get Regional Chapters in various locales up and running;
  5. Bring the association to a more functional level in line with other University Alumni Associations.
Up until the time we became officers, the University had given a yearly donation to the SOM AA on behalf on the new graduates. This ceased the year we became officers.

We have received little assistance (financial or otherwise) from the University or our own members. If our association is to become a functional entity, YOU must get involved.

Hope you all had a good summer. We wish the new officers success in their endeavors.
